Do I need a Breathing Machine?
Do I need to have a breathing machine (CPAP or BiPAP) if I have sleep apnea?
Yes, sleep apnea is commonly treated with CPAP or BiPAP devices.
However, it is not the only option.
Not all patients with sleep apnea need to be treated with PAP therapy. If you have mild or moderate sleep apnea, there are other options. And if you have mild sleep apnea and have no symptoms such as non-refreshing sleep, waking up drowsy or excessive daytime fatigue, then you might not need to be treated.
If you have any questions about your sleep or further questions about other treatment options, you should talk to your family doctor or get a referral to a sleep physician.
